Summary
A NEW report in India has revealed child labour is still rife in the football stitching industry. According to a study by the Bachpan Bachao Andolan (BBA), more than 5,000 children - most of them girls - are involved in football stitching and manufacturing of other sports goods in India. The study was carried out in association with the International Labour Rights Forum and BBA, an NGO which works on child rights. One company implicated was Cosco, a well-known company which makes footballs and has a policy against child labour.
The BBA's Kailash Satyarthi said: "There has to be an increased consumer awareness to put an end to child labour here and everywhere else. It's heartbreaking to see kids stitching 'child labour free' tags on the footballs."See the full content of this document
