Best practices suggest that we use behavioural interviewing to distinguish between knowledge and skill before hiring and a skills matrix to grade the ability of staff to do what they need to be able to do after hiring. The skills matrix helps us to identify who needs to be able to do what. 'Do' rather than 'know' is the keyword here and this should be reflected in the skills matrix.
