Summary
Advance Distributed Learning (ADL) is an initiative of the US Department of Defence that produced Shareable Content Object Reference Model (SCORM), specifications and standards from organizations such as IMS, IEEE and AICC to produce course packages that can be uploaded into any conformant learning management system. However, changes in management at ADL have brought a change of mind and direction resulting in ADL holding on to the stewardship of SCORM. The community recognizes that many of the assumptions of SCORM are outdated and there is a need to rethink the interoperability of learning systems based on today's e-learning imperatives and modem software practices.
