Wikis are one component of Web 2.0 that is particularly well suited to enterprise environments. In addition, wikis provide a simple way for workers to collaborate on documents and track changes. Wikis are also easy to create in secure environments, behind a company's firewall. Wikis are set up at a grassroots level for collaborative work and knowledge sharing. They may also be set up at a corporate level to gain widespread input into a new initiative or to enable information sharing among customers or partners. Wikis are in fact a good example of the type of tool that companies can implement to help support informal learning -- an increasingly important strategic goal among leading learning organizations. One of the main reasons that wikis can be so effective for workplace learning is that few people think of using a wiki as learning. They think of using it as work.
