Tigerstyle: The Brave Ones

Summary

Raj and Pops can be forgiven for taking six years to come up with songs for their longawaited comeback Mystics, Martyrs & Maharajas. That is because the talented music producers have also been busy discovering new talent, doing banging re-mixes and masterminding albums like Blitzkrieg's The Rhymebook and Bikram Singh's latest offering Tip Top.

It's a huge relief that it's now in the public domain. A weight has lifted from our shoulders. We worked hard to guard the material we had been working on from piracy and people copying our ideas, so it's just a good feeling to have the work out there. We're looking forward to getting started on new material for the next album.

The title is something we thought of at the very end, once the songs were selected and we had most of the artists in place for the cover sleeve. We come from a very spiritual background, and we listen to a lot of kirtan and katha (Sikh religious music and philosophy). In a sermon, I had heard a quote from Gusai Tulsi Das where he says, Janani janay to bhagat jan, ke data, ke soor. Nehi to janani banjh rehe, kahe gavavay noor, which translates to: 'When a woman is to give birth, she should give birth to someone who has the soul of a saint, the passion of a martyr and the courage of a king, otherwise it is a waste of her beauty'. I felt that these three attributes were highly regarded in eastern culture and in some ways, the songs on this album reflected these same concepts. So that gave shape to the title Mystics, Martyrs & Maharajas.
