The record companies know the artist is passionate about the music and that is why many legends who left memorable hits have died paupers. I remember interviewing talented music producer Anandji of Kalyanji-Anandji fame. He was proud that Black Eyed Peas had used samples of his compositions for their hit track Don't Phunk With My Heart and that he was going to the US for a BMI (Broadcasting Media Inc) award. Although there were no royalties or big cheques due, Anandji was happy that credit was given to the original creators of the song.
