So what's the answer, and who's got the medication to the problem? It certainly isn't the status quo. Matilda MacAttram of Black Mental Health UK, campaigned hard to oppose and raise awareness of the governments introduction of Community Treatment Orders (also known as psychiatric ASBO's). In Britain the overrepresentation of African people who are mental health service users is an epidemic of tragic proportions. This doesn't even include those of us outside the system who (like me) have occasionally suffered from extreme depression and even thoughts of self harm often borne from extreme financial hardship, emotional repression, spiritual oppression and the systematic institutionalised discrimination by both employers and the state.
