On this day, Hindus remember how Lord Krishna killed the evil king Narakasura, who had kidnapped 16,100 daughters of various kings, and kept them imprisoned. Lord Krishna went to Narakasura's palace to punish him, and fought his way through the numerous demons guarding the king. He then entered the palace of Narakasura where he released the 16,100 princesses. The princesses prayed that Krishna accept them as his wife, and Krishna agreed.
