Men's Room founder, Clive Lewis, said: 'There has been so much negative press recently about black men in particular. I hope the conference will play a part in redressing the balance and inspire people to play a part in addressing some of our community's pressing problems.'

Songs sung included Labi Siffre's Something Inside So Strong and Jackie Wilson's Your Love Keeps Lifting Me. 'The session was about bringing something positive into their lives,' explained choir leader John Fisher.

'Some of the inmates have been there for 30 to 40 years. The sad thing is that they're never going to see the light of day - some because they've committed murder and others because they have lost touch with reality. Going to these places puts things in perspective.'
