Summary
A recent survey of 45,000 companies by Manpower has revealed that a significant number of companies are already having difficulty in hiring suitably qualified personnel. While 58%, 53%, 44% and 42% of companies in Japan, Germany, the US and the UK respectively say that they are experiencing these challenges, even organizations in the new growth economies of China and India are also reporting recruitment problems. In particular, CA-based e-learning researcher and commentator Josh Bersin suggests that the key human resource skills of the future will be succession planning, the identification of key leaders and the development of leadership and management skills for mid-career employees, along with finding ways to maximize the value of older workers' knowledge and experience. Measuring learning is becoming increasingly important, yet the e-learning world is only just struggling to come to terms with the whole return on investment debate.
