There is no sovereignty without food security.
Foreign countries, worried about their future food security, have been investing in agriculture by purchasing concessions in a number of African countries. But this example of responsible farsightedness is not being emulated by many African states which are already food deficient. Hippolyte Fofack argues that a dependency mentality is the only constraint preventing Africa from achieving its own food security.
