Helen Taft is facing a dilemma, On the one hand, as executive director of Families First Health and Support Center in Portsmouth, she sees, every day, the need for affordable health care. On the other hand, as head of one of NH's 129,000 small businesses, she's facing a 50-percent increase in her company-provided health insurance premiums. "As a small business, it's hard to absorb that," Taft says.
Of the approximately 65 employees of Families First - which provides community health care to those who are either underinsured or go without health insurance entirely - roughly half are on the agency's health care plan and have seen a $50 increase in their monthly contributions.
