Summary
The South Yorkshire e-Learning Programme (SYeLP) is an Objective 1-funded educational investment program, established in 2003 to support new ways of learning for learners as young as ten years old, using the power of technology and the flexibility of the Internet. At the heart of the programme is partnership working. One example of successful partnership working is SYeLP's collaboration with The Sheffield College. In recognition of the potential that blended teaching methods could play in widening participation and access to learning, SYeLP collaborated with The Sheffield College to support flexible and accessible courses online. The online nature of the course gives students the flexibility to work at their own pace and at times or in places to suit them. The course has received much national acclaim, is documented in the government's 'Harnessing Technology: Transforming Learning' strategy' and is currently the subject of a two-year large-scale Department for Education and Skills-funded independent evaluation into the factors that create success in online learning.
