Report on credit guarantee schemes in Africa
A report published by the Food and Agriculture Organization revealed that credit guarantee schemes in Africa, particularly in Nigeria, turned out to be vicious schemes. Nigeria's Agricultural Credit Guarantee Scheme guaranteed certain bank loans which they practically denied later for lack of capital. Another notorious case is that of Malaysia. An exception is Accion International which was successful in Latin America. The same success is attainable in africa, according to the UN report, if only economies of scale would be achieved on both sides of the equation.See the full content of this document
