Namibia's fishing industry has developed into a very productive and competitive industry after experiencing difficult times. The industry's strength is evidenced by its increasing ability to invest and operate in other countries. The industry experienced difficult times after independence after its fishing stocks were allowed to recover after being depleted. Among the major products of the industry are hake, horse mackerel, pilchard, orange roughy and monkfish.
