There are numerous very good reasons why an e-learning course is the correct response to address a business problem. The danger lies in the assumption that a course of some description is always the answer. In many cases nowadays a course will be ineffective as a means of providing what people need, especially if this is when they are in the middle of their work. If what they need to know can be provided by a performance support system, a knowledge management system or any number of other informal learning methods at the point of need, then there is no longer any point in creating and running a course on the subject.
