MOSTAFA MIRMEHDI IS HAUNTED by the words 'if only'.

If only he hadn't sought the services of an immigration attorney who, unbeknown to him, was under investigation by the FBI.

If only he hadn't attended a 1997 demonstration in Denver that was calling for democracy in Iran.
