Summary
An e-learner is like a commuter needing to get from A to B. Even though e-learners are unaware of what is happening, there should be activity in the background between the content and the learning management system to make sure data arrives safely at its destination, in this case the database. Communication between the content and learning management system depends on an Internet connection, so breaks in communication are always possible. Communication from the content to the learning management system can meet SCORM minimum requirements but still fall far short of best practice for achieving successful, robust, e-learning delivery and a satisfactory user experience. Best practice may sound optional, but regular communication is vital it a learning management system is being used.
