'It was a performance of spirit, determination and desire,' JA-born [John Barnes], who takes over from former technical director Rene Simoes on 1 November, said after the Mexico triumph. 'We have just beaten one of the top teams in the world. I am very, very proud.'

'It's not about one person, it's about the team now,' match-winner [Ricardo Fuller] said. 'It is always a good feeling to score a goal, especially an important one. But it's for the entire football fraternity in Jamaica. We can still get through to the World Cup.'

'It's enormous for us,' [Dwight Yorke] beamed afterwards. 'Everyone knows how important it was for us. We left it a little late though.'
