How aid works (or doesn't).
The term 'aid' appears to be able to take on a variety of meanings depending on various viewpoints. This allows both 'donors' and 'recipients' to complicate and fudge the issue to such an extent that the public is left floundering in a morass of claim and counter-claim. Here Khadija Sharife tries to untangle some of the knots.
If the current media climate is anything to go by, the world is decisively geared toward 'making poverty history'. There is even a campaign named after this noble goal, composed of a coalition of public figures and aid groups. Such initiatives are certainly welcome in light of global poverty statistics.
