Nigeria's General Sani Abacha

Nigerians are hopeful that Gen Sani Abacha's economic policies could improve their living conditions and put the country back to its feet. Abacha instituted the Interim National Government in a coup on Nov 17, 1993. His initial effort to promote economic reform in the country was hailed by many foreign diplomats. This included the appointment of civilians into the Provisional Ruling Council. However, Abacha still has to deal with corruption, the allocation of resources and the proper management of the foreign exchange market to be able to initiate real reforms in the country.
