Summary
The Department for Education and Skills recently funded a pilot into e-mentoring for exam revision across 39 schools and it is now being made available nationally to help school pupils in 500 schools to revise for this summer's exams. The pilot e-mentoring project was focused on helping secondary school students revise for their exams. Schools saw the most success when e-mentoring was embedded within their existing revision program. Also e-mentoring takes less time than traditional face-to-face mentoring and can be squeezed in with other work. As long as the chat and discussion features were available, there were no real issues with the two different environments used. Some pupils liked to use the shared whiteboard, but others were happy just to use the chat and discussion features. Schools are now invited to sign up to the national rollout and there are already plans to use the platforms for other school-related collaboration.
