Entrepreneurial Intentions Among the Business Students of Higher Education Institutes of Punjab

Summary


Entrepreneurship is considered as the mean of wealth creation and personal fulfillment (Ma and Tan, 2005). This study attempts to find the entrepreneurial intentions among the business students of higher education institutes of Punjab. The data is collected from 300 students and the results indicate that males and people having families with business exposure are more inclined to start their own business enterprise than females and students not having family business exposure. In addition, environmental factors do not significantly affect the entrepreneurial intentions among the business students of higher education institutes of Punjab.

1. Introduction

Entrepreneurship is said to be a perspective, the unique way to look at the world, a particular mindset to leverage on the creativity to achieve some specific results (Ma & Tan, 2005) that might be profits or some other motives. Entrepreneurs include wide range of people as the business founders, owners, managers and university researchers (Gartner, 1989).

The role of entrepreneurs in the economic prosperity is widely discussed topic in the literature and many countries like China and India are reaping the fruits on the entrepreneurship. Minniti and Lévesque (2008) provide the support for the benefits that entrepreneurial activities provide for an economy.
