There is much talk of disruptive technologies but no one has talked about e-learning's potential disruptive technology. eBay has recently announced a shop template that will allow many businesses to get an online presence quickly without having to pay for Web designers, Web hosters and e-commerce providers. So eBay's next step must surely be to create a worldwide free Internet-based learning management system (LMS). eBay's mission is to provide a global trading platform where practically anyone can trade practically anything. The success of eBay is down to the trust created by the feedback system. Learners could access the LMS, choose from a catalogue of courses, taking particular note of the amount of positive feedback each course had got, and then buy online with confidence. As well as logging the sale, the LMS could also log whether learners had completed the course.
