A difficult birth: the liberalisation of the Iranian economy.
The process of democratisation in Iran is proceeding in fits and starts, as modernisers and traditionalists battle for supremacy. In a similar vein, the government's efforts to liberalise the economy and attract foreign investment into a growing number of sectors are being hampered by the struggle taking place within the country.
