Coined by Goldman Sachs in 2001, "Bric" has become one of the world's most influential acronyms and shorthand for a wider power shift: West to East (and South); developed to developing world. Over the past decade capital has cascaded into Brazil, Russia, India and China, making those states the centre of the emerging markets story, but leaving others, to a degree, on the sidelines.
