A GROWING number of African and Caribbean people are facing deportation because they don't 'look British', writes Marguerita Ekemezuma.

When she asked the Home Office for a letter confirming her legal status she was informed that her records had been destroyed. 'England is my home,' [Fredericks] said. 'If they send me to Jamaica, I'll have nowhere to go.'

A spokesman for the UK Border Agency said: 'It is preferable that those with no right to remain in the UK return home voluntarily. Regrettably not all choose to do so and in those circumstances it may be necessary to enforce removal.'
