Summary
Service traditionally doesn't worry about the future - or more precisely it might worry about it but couldn't really do anything about it. Scheduling systems, which started appearing 10 years or so ago, offered the first glimpse of what was possible. Instead of an engineer roaming the countryside on his own whims, now resources and routes could be planned. This once very clever technology is becoming routine and when it becomes routine it becomes cheap.
